The Christmas Carol Camellia is a brand new hybrid variety from the Southern Living Plant Collection. It produces bright red flowers edged in crisp white. These flowers are bell-shaped with an attractive golden center. Expect them to begin emerging in fall and continue into early winter. The foliage is dark green and evergreen. The leaves are leathery, glossy and serrated on the edge. It grows with a graceful habit that is almost semi-weeping in nature. At maturity, it will reach 5 ft. to 7 ft. tall and 3 ft. to 5 ft. W. The Christmas Carol Camellia is hardy from USDA Zones 7-9. It grows best with 3-hours to 4-hours of direct sun or all-day filtered sun. Slightly acidic, rich soil with good drainage is ideal. Water your new plantings 2 to 3 times per week for the first growing season. Fertilize in spring with a slow-release acidic plant fertilizer. We also recommend applying 3 in. to 4 in. of mulch around the base of your plant (not physically touching the trunk of the plant). These Camellias are well-rooted in a 2 Gal. pot and will traditionally range from 14 in. to 18 in. tall. They are not guaranteed to be in bloom upon arrival.
