The October Magic Carpet Camellia from the Southern Living Plant Collection is a stunning and unusual beauty. This variety produces fantastic watermelon pink double-blooms with heavily frilled petals. These flowers bloom and rebloom again in Fall, resulting in an extended bloom period. The foliage is dark green and consistent year-round. Each leaf is glossy, leathery and evergreen. Its naturally low-growing habit makes it an ideal low-maintenance candidate for foundation plantings, low-hedges, borders and mass plantings. The October Magic Carpet Camellia is hardy from USDA Zones 7-9. It grows well in all morning sun with afternoon shade or all-day filtered sun. Gardeners in Zone 7 may see success in Full Sun as well. Plant them in rich, slightly acidic garden soil with good drainage for best results. Water your new plantings 2-3 times per week during the first growing season. Afterward, supplementary water is only needed during times of drought and heat. We also recommend applying 3 in. to 4 in. of mulch to protect your plant’s roots from extreme temperatures and water-loss. These Camellias are well-rooted in a 2 Gal. pot and will be between 10 in. to 15 in. tall with a wider spread upon arrival. They are not guaranteed to be in bloom on arrival.
